RESUMO

In the post-epidemic era, the labor market has become increasingly complex, making it even more crucial to incorporate sustainability into employment demand. As we enter the post-pandemic era, a globalization trend has become more apparent. It is crucial to modernize employability through educational reform in order to assist employees in enhancing their professional skills. This study began by analyzing the importance of financial engineering practice instruction and graduate employability in the post-epidemic era. Second, the study proposed the content and a plan for inter-disciplinary teaching reform to address talent cultivation needs based on labor market requirements. Third, a face-to-face survey and interview were conducted with students affected by changes in teaching, and the results were analyzed and summarized. On this basis, the impact of education reform was evaluated using both the expert scoring method and the analytic hierarchy approach. The results indicated that the suggested financial engineering teaching reform program improved the school's discipline strength, enrollment rate, employment rate, and competition awards, especially discipline strength. This research can be used to inform the teaching of financial engineering majors in various countries, assist job candidates in enhancing their professional skills, and build a formidable talent pool for the labor market.

RESUMO

Non-grain production (NGP) on cultivated land has become a common phenomenon due to the prosperity of the rural economy and the optimisation of the agricultural structure. However, the excessive use of cultivating land for NGP has threatened food production and the sustainable use of cultivated land. To halt this trend and to ensure food security, the authors of this paper applied a novel non-grain index to measure NGP, which could reflect multiple NGP activities;designated Hubei Province as its object of research;and revealed NGP's spatio-temporal patterns of the past 30 years. We then assessed the characteristics of NGP based on spatial autocorrelation analysis, the Theil index, and geographically weighted regression. The results showed that the value of the non-grain index grew from 0.497 to 1.113 as NGP increased significantly in Hubei Province. The number of high-NGP counties increased, spatial agglomeration became obvious, and the eastern and western sides of Hubei Province witnessed an observable growth in NGP. As a result, the NGP in the eastern and western regions overtook production in the central region. Despite a series of historical subsidy policies and agricultural modernisation initiatives that promoted the planting of grain crops, the policy of "grain on valuable cultivated land” could be better implemented. We conclude by making some suggestions for reducing NGP and protecting cultivated land.

RESUMO

University students' mental health and wellbeing has been a global public health issue of increasing concern in recent years, with a growing body of empirical evidence suggesting university students are a 'very high-risk population' for mental disorders and psychological distress. Pre-existing mental health challenges among university students have consequently been compounded by the global COVID-19 pandemic. A sample of 20 students registered in the education faculty at a large urban university in South Africa participated in a Photovoice study. The research required them to capture three photos or images of their experiences of wellbeing during the pandemic. The findings showed that students experienced mental health concerns and disillusionment with higher education. Their wellbeing was associated with a sense of connection with themselves, their peers and the campus space, and the cultivation of resilience.

RESUMO

Guided by cultivation theory and intergroup contact theory, we examined how U.S. college students' traditional media use and social media use for information about COVID-19, and direct contact with Chinese were associated with their behavioral attitudes toward Chinese people in this survey study. Findings indicated that contact quality was positively associated with attitudes toward Chinese people. Moderation analyses indicated that traditional media use negatively predicted behavioral attitudes toward Chinese people for those with no Chinese friends and was a nonsignificant predictor for those with one or more Chinese friends. Furthermore, results indicated that social media use was positively associated with attitudes toward Chinese people for those who had high contact quality with Chinese but was a nonsignificant predictor for those who had low contact quality. Overall findings ruminate the critical role of intergroup contact quality and friendship in reducing intergroup prejudice in COVID-19.

RESUMO

Objective:To determine the therapeutic effect of in vitro cultivation of bezoar on a mouse model adding disease with syndrome of coronavirus pneumonia with Yidu Xifei syndrome. Method: BALB/c mice were randomly divided into six groups according to their weight grade:normal group,HCoV-229E infection group, cold and damp group,a mouse model combining disease with syndrome of coronavirus pneumonia with Yidu Xifei syndrome, and high and low dose group of in vitro cultivation of bezoar. The combination model of human coronavirus pneumonia with Yidu Xifei syndrome mice was established by the method of cold dampness condition stimulation+coronavirus HCoV-229E infection. In vitro cultivation of bezoar (0.128,0.064 g.kg-1 )was administrated by gavage for 3 days from the day of infection. The observation indexes included:general state observation of mice, inhibition rate of lung index and lung index of mice. Real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction(Real-time PCR)was used to detect the viral load in the lung tissues of mice. Serum levels of motilin(MTL),gastrin(GAS),and cytokines interleukin(IL)-10,IL-6, tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-alpha)and interferon-gamma(IFN-gamma)in lung tissue of mice were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA). The percentages of CD4+ T lymphocytes,CD8+ T lymphocytes and B lymphocytes in the blood of mice were determined by flow cytometry. Result:The high and low dose group of in vitro cultivation of bezoar can significantly improve the general condition of model mice. Compared with blank group, model group mice lung index increased significantly(P<0.01), nucleic acids significantly increased expression of lung tissue in mice(P<0.01),significantly higher serum MTL content in mice,GAS content significantly decreased(P<0.05,P<0.01),lung tissue cells in the immune factor TNF-alpha,IL-10 and IL-6 were significantly increased(P<0.01),peripheral blood lymphocyte CD4+ T cells in mice,The percentages of CD8+ T cells and B cells were significantly decreased(P<0.01). Compared with model group, in vitro cultivation bezoar mice lung index of high and low dose group were significantly lower(P<0.01),the lung tissue of mice express nucleic acid decreased significantly(P<0.01),MTL content decreased significantly(P< 0.01),the lung tissue of mice in the IL-6,IL-10,the TNF-alpha,IFN-gamma levels were significantly lower(P<0.01), in vitro cultivation bezoar high dose group can significantly increase the CD4+ T cell percentage(P<0.05),in vitro cultivation bezoar can to a certain extent reduce model mice lung inflammatory exudation, pulmonary interstitial edema,as well as blood stasis symptoms. Conclusion:In vitro cultivation of bezoar has a significant therapeutic effect on a mice model adding disease with syndrome of coronavirus pneumonia with Yidu Xifei syndrome. It can be treated by reducing the lung index of the model mice, improving the pathological damage of the lung tissue, adjusting the immune effective and inhibiting the clearing of inflammatory factors, and to provide a laboratory basis for clinical medication.Copyright © 2021, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences Institute of Chinese Materia Medica. RESUMO

Many research studies defined news pages that connect users with public affairs as social media influencers. This includes opinion leaders, journalists, media personnel, editors, and political experts. In this sense, news consumption on influencers' Facebook pages can have the same cultivation impact as consuming news on any offline platform, particularly during times of threat. Within this, we aim to reexamine the cultivation theory in the context of social media. Thus, we explore the role of influencers on Facebook in cultivating threat perception among youths during the COVID-19 pandemic. Also, to examine the possible correlation between threat perception and favoring of more restrictive policies on Facebook news coverage. For this, we used the survey method (n=1,309) on youths aged 18-35 years in Egypt, Spain, and the USA. In this respect, our data revealed a significant relationship between news consumption on influencers' Facebook pages and threat level. The more people consume news on influencers' Facebook pages, the higher their threat perception is. Our findings also demonstrate that even though the cultivation assumption is valid in the context of Facebook, there are variations from the TV context postulation. Nowadays, people are aware of the effect of their news exposure on shaping their perception yet being aware did not mediate the cultivation effect. © 2023 by authors.

RESUMO

The proteinaceous food value of mushrooms is well recognized and it may offer effective and lasting solutions to the problems of child malnutrition and protein supplement in pregnant ladies. Advancements have been made toward understanding mushroom biology, cultivation aspects, using a variety of agro lingo-cellulosic waste, breeding high yielding varieties, medicinal implications and uses of these unique fruiting bodies in bioremediation and waste water management. Mushrooms contain antioxidants and anticancerous chemicals in significant quanti-ties. Use of Chaga mushroom in corona virus disease control has been suggested recently in Russia. After first cultivation of rat ear fungus (Auricularia auricula) in 600 A.D., now more than 20 species are commercially cultivated and protocols to culture about 300 mushrooms is now known. New cultivation methods are devel-oped and discussed for Shiitake mushroom (Lentinula edodes), Lenzites sterioides, Reishi mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum) and Turkey tail (Trametes versicolor). The biological efficiency was 45% for Lentinus and 56% for Reishi in experi-ments conducted at Botany Department of the M.S. University of Baroda. An increase in yield was recorded when Lentinus mycelium was exposed to blue light and 5-10 ppm Veradix (IBA). The cultivation of medicinal mushroom is profitable as well fascinating since it requires a range of specific environmental conditions such as humidity, temperature, etc. The efforts have been made to eliminate the use of polythene bags by using earthen pots in case of oyster mushroom. A range of substrates have been used to increase the yield and manage agro-waste produced in large quantity in different countries. Cellulose and hemicellulose served as better sources of mushroom production, whereas, in lignin containing substrates the growth was slower. Apart from using substrates, dilute acid soaking of the leaves produced better growth of oyster. Light and temperature levels are also critical for the temperature required was 30 °C. Exposure to light acts as a shock to switch over the mycelium from vegetative to reproductive stage. The efforts are being made to increase number of fruiting bodies by the use of Ni and Sn salts. This chapter deals with spawn production and the advances in cultivation of four medicinal mushrooms made in different parts of the world. Mushrooms breeding and strain improvement has resulted into many new and high yielding strains. Production of oyster mushroom is done in almost all parts of the country, extensive fungal surveys are needed for developing better conservation strategies. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2022.

RESUMO

Agriculture is facing many challenges besides the Covid-19 pandemic and its aftermath. We have identified 20 main challenges including threatened biodiversity, sealing of arable land, climate change, lack of manpower and farm animal diseases. There are three main pathways to cope with these challenges: evolution, imitation, and innovation. We argue that challenges can be a driver of one of these: innovation. This is exemplified through a case from Australia, where the Covid-19 caused problems for the fruit industry resulting in robotics innovation. Agriculture has undergone some general innovation eras through history, and we are now approaching a new such era. This new era is characterized by (1) new crop and cultivation concepts, (2) field robotics, (3) fossil-free energy and products, (4) smart connected systems and (5) animal welfare technology systems. The magnitude of today's challenges leads to the conclusion that innovation is the only promising path forward. © 2023 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

RESUMO

The Covid-19 pandemic has greatly affected people's lives, especially women farmer from the Sibermas Mandiri Women's Farmer Group, Pudak Village, Kumpeh Ulu District, Muarojambi Regency. This pandemic has resulted in a decline in household income. Therefore, it is necessary to find a solution to increase their household income through the cultivation of Butternut Squash (Curcubita moschata) which currently has a large enough opportunity and market potential to become a business. In an effort to achieve this target, the Butternut Squash cultivation innovation can be implemented through the "Learning by Doing" model, which is a cultivation implementation model that is directly carried out by the Women Farmers group on the land. The result of these activities show that the average butternut squash production reaches +or- 150 kg. With the selling price of butternut squash Rp.8.000/kg, the average omzet obtained is +or- Rp. 1.200.000,-. It shows that the cultivation of butternut squash can increase household income and encourage the women farmer group to continue the cultivation of butternut squash independently.

RESUMO

COVID-19 has fueled discrimination against people of Asian descent across the world, and anti-Asian sentiment has become pervasive across social media platforms. However, little research has been conducted to understand Asians' experiences of COVID-related racism outside the USA. Drawing insights from cultivation theory and minority stress theory, this study examines how young Asians' use of social media in Australia affects their experiences of individual and vicarious racial discrimination on social media, and how racial discrimination experienced on social media is associated with their concerns about real-world racism and well-being. A survey of 413 social media users aged 16–30 who self-identified as Asians or Asian Australians shows that active use of social media relating to COVID-19 increases their likelihood of experiencing both individual and vicarious racial discrimination on social media. Racism experienced on social media contributes to their concerns about real-world racism, which leads to negative emotions and low life satisfaction. © AMIC/WKWSCI-NTU 2023.

RESUMO

Rice production and research have met unprecedented challenges in recent years. Yield and total production have plateaued for many years in some major producing rice-producing countries while the demand from populations in poverty is ever increasing. For example, more than 100 million additional people became extremely poor, mostly from Asia and sub-Saharan Africa in 2020 alone. Rice is not only the calorie source for half of the global population but also the key staple food for the world's poorest and undernourished people living in Asia and Africa. In this review, we have analysed the trends in rice research in the past three decades, particularly on the mega-projects that attempted to revolutionize rice yield, sustainability and quality of both Asian (Oryza sativa) and African (O. glaberrima) rice, with their impact on rice cultivation. We have also analysed the trends in population growth, rice cultivation, production, price and consumption along with their projections for 2030 and beyond. Furthermore, we have analysed recent trends in variety release using Bangladesh as an example. Finally, we have identified the future challenges and priorities of rice research.

RESUMO

Agriculture has been India's main profession for centuries. According to the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, the need for edible grains will increase to 345 million tones in the next decade, however its role in India's GDP has recently declined. The current situation of farmers is disappointing as most of them live in severe poverty. They have to take loans to make ends meet and at times it becomes difficult to repay the loan. Our portal aims at providing crop seeds and fertilizers at cheap prices. The option of renting farming equipment would also be available. The cutting-edge technology which has been used over the past few years, has been lagging when it comes to farming. The main reason for this is both the disregard of these technologies and also the inaccessibility. Though farmers strive hard, even in this 21st century, they are bamboozled by third party retailers, which increases their poverty. In this covid pandemic, there was a huge demand for the agricultural products but it was difficult to get all the materials as well as information online. The solution to all the problems is Agro marketing which would make everything easy and secure. E-Farming provides a way for farmers to buy produce with only a basic knowledge of how to use the internet. This website is a centralized approach to guide farmers in all aspects and display current market prices of various products without brokers' cost. It will also include various government agricultural programs and access to new cultivation techniques. [2] The farmer will also be helped in the harvesting process by giving them a 6-day weather forecast and a schedule via SMS provided by the system. Along with this, they will be able to connect with agro health advisors to raise their queries regarding crop health and efficient farming techniques. © 2022 IEEE.

RESUMO

This study integrates cultivation and intergroup threat theories to examine media cultivation effects during the COVID-19 pandemic. We argue that U.S. media have consistently portrayed China as a threat and target of blame. The cultivation of media has thus resulted in perceived threat of and blame on Chinese people for the COVID-19 pandemic. Results of a cross-sectional survey in two samples (MTurk: N = 375; college: N = 566) showed that the amount of media consumption predicted stronger perceptions that Chinese people were a health threat, and also predicted blame on Chinese people for the COVID-19 outbreak. Threat perception and blame were further associated with support of media content that derogated China, stronger intentions to attack, and weaker intentions to help Chinese people. The findings have profound implications for intergroup threat and cultivation research, and practical importance for intergroup relations, especially when the global community finds itself in a public crisis.

RESUMO

This paper presents a research case study that explores in depth the question of the function of conspiracy theories and their uses among a religious community during a Global Pandemic. Falun Dafa is a new religious movement that emerged in China and was banned by the Chinese Communist Party. Growing into a global community, it has nowadays followers in many countries, including Bulgaria. The movement???s complex doctrine includes visions of the impending destruction of humanity. Today, they serve as a well-prepared coping mechanism to deal with the crisis, having set their apocalyptic expectations long before the advent of COVID-19. Based on years of observation of the community in Bulgaria, I explore how the conspiracy narratives, underlying this movement, help to reassure and restore psychological balance among followers and how the conspiratorial attitudes get stabilized in such situation of Global Crisis.

RESUMO

Physicians, residents and medical students experience higher levels of stress, depression and burnout than the general population. This mental deterioration determines a less compassionate care of patients. The proposals of the universities and hospitals to prevent this situation are scarce. For this reason, we decided to examine the efficacy of a Compassion Cultivation Training (CCT) program in preventing psychological distress and increasing well-being in a sample of medical students from the Complutense University of Madrid. Participants were randomly distributed into two groups: receiving CCT and waitlist list control. Both groups completed online surveys before the intervention, at the end of it and two months after its completion. The variables studied were compassion, empathy, psychological distress, well-being, mindfulness, burnout, resilience, emotional regulation, and concern about COVID-19. Those who received the CCT program had significant improvements in self-compassion, mindfulness, and emotional regulation and experienced a significant reduction in anxiety, stress, and emotional exhaustion. Some of these effects persisted at two-month follow-up. The CCT seems to be an adequate intervention to take care of the mental health of medical students and favor compassionate care of patients. © 2022 The Authors

Physicians, residents and medical students experience higher levels of stress, depression and burnout than the general population. This mental deterioration determines a less compassionate care of patients. The proposals of the universities and hospitals to prevent this situation are scarce.
